Traffic Information & Route Planning |
There are three main ways to do route planning (other than getting out a map!). These are using SatNav (satelite navigation), using a routeplanner software programme or using an online route planner such as that provided by The AA. The AA routeplanner also gives estimated travelling times which can be useful, but may not be very accurate if you are travelling at a very busy or very quiet time of day.
Traffic information is sometimes available with satnav, but you may find that it's an optional extra - expect to pay about £70 per year. Of course, up to date traffic information is available from stations such as 5Live on 909 and 693 or, may radios have a setting on FM to enable you to get the nearest traffic announcements to interrupt your cd or cassette. You can also get the AA to send you traffic sms text alerts costing 50p per message.
To be able to access travel information, particularly regarding Motorway accidents, whilst on your journey can save considerable time and frustration!
Traffic info before you travel is available at the AA website , including maps to show you the problem areas. Teletext also provides reasonably up to date traffic information.
